Stay Tuned For a Picture of Me!

June 24th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Hailey, Me 20 Comments »

I usually try to stay away from my computer on the weekends. And Saturday I did especially great avoiding my computer. When I got up in the morning I did have to check my email and my blogs just in case there was some sort of blog emergency. But then it was well into the afternoon before I actually sat down to use my computer. And it was wonderful.

I started out my morning trying to get Hailey ready for our daily walk (I’ve done it for 4 days in a row, so I think it now qualifies as a “daily” walk.) She loves to go for a walk so I don’t know why she fights me so much. She kicked and squirmed while I got her dressed, refused to open her mouth to have her teeth brushed and ran away as fast as she could when I tried to put her sunscreen on. The entire process probably took at least 45 minutes. Finally we were ready to go and enjoyed our morning walk.

After our walk Hailey and I played out front until I got tired of chasing her down every 15 seconds when she would take off running right towards the road. So we went to the safety of the fenced in back yard. Hailey had a blast with her sidewalk chalk, painting with water, going down her “whee,” and watching the ants on our patio.

Then we “helped” Rich wash the car. Hailey thought it was a blast, as long as she didn’t get wet and no one touched her bucket or sponge.

What a little helper.

After we finished washing the car it was time to come inside for lunch. Which of course caused much kicking and screaming (by Hailey). Since she had gotten up bright and early that morning (6am) she went right down for her nap after lunch.

At that point I decided that it could wait no more- I needed a hair cut. It has been over a year since I have had my hair cut, no trimming or anything. So, I’m sure you can imagine that I was very much in need of having my hair cut. And suddenly I felt the urge to have highlights as well. So, off I went to have my hair done.

So now about the title of this post, the one where I said there would be a picture of me? Here you go.

This is me modeling my hip-t a few ago- notice my hair. You can’t really tell but it is several inches past my shoulders. And it is also brown.

And now?

This is me on Sunday morning before church. I did my hair just for you (and also just in case I saw anyone while at church). See how short it is? And you can’t tell from the picture but it is really light. I think it is too light actually.

I know this picture is blurry, but have you ever tried to take a picture of the top of your head before? So in this picture you can kind of tell that it is much lighter but you can’t really tell how light it is. I mean I did tell the hairdresser I wanted the highlights to be noticeable, but I didn’t want them quite as noticeable as they are.

I was so sad with my hair that I thought that maybe I shouldn’t even go to church. Or that I should at the very least wear a paper bag over my head so that no one would notice my hair. Then the lady who sits behind me in church every week told me that she loved the new style and the new color about 3 or 4 times and I started to feel better.

So, tell me what you think- just remember that it is a lot lighter than you can tell from the picture.

Strollers Are So Last Year and a Proud Mommy Moment

June 20th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Hailey 18 Comments »

Last summer when I wanted to get out of the house but didn’t actually have anywhere to go I would take Hailey to the mall.  We would spend the day at the mall strolling in and out of stores all while Hailey sat happily in her stroller.

So yesterday morning I had a fabulous idea- let’s go to the mall and stroll around.  We were there for about 5 minutes when Hailey started yelling, “WALK! WALK! I WALK!”  Apparently strollers are so last year.  So I let her walk.  I thought it might result in a better nap once we got home.

Walking through the mall with a toddler can be pretty interesting.  Hailey had to stop and smell all of the (fake) flowers that were placed every few feet.  She had to run to see Mickey Mouse at the Disney Store.  There may have been a small tantrum when she couldn’t ride on the little rides they have placed throughout the mall.  (When did they start charging a dollar for those rides?)

Oh, and let’s not forget Hailey opening the door of the dressing room that I was getting dressed in before I had finished getting dressed.  I was quick enough to close the door before I gave the world a show, but it was a close call.  And then there was the quick peek Hailey did under the door of a different dressing room where some poor woman was trying to try on some clothes.  When does the whole shopping thing get easier?

And my naptime plan- it didn’t work- Hailey slept for about 45 minutes.

And now I just have to share this proud mommy moment with you.  This afternoon after Hailey’s nap we were playing outside with chalk and I told Hailey to write her name.  So, she wrote this:

Then she turned to me and said “H”

Just to be sure I asked her again to write her name.  This time she did it on the patio, so it’s not quite as clear but she wrote this:

and again said “H”

Now I realize that they look a bit more like an “A” but I think that is pretty good for a 20 month old.  So, I just had to share.

Another use for Duct Tape

June 19th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Hailey, Rich 24 Comments »

Does anyone know what this is?

That just so happens to be Rich’s laptop.

Any guesses as to why it is laying flat open like that?

Well, apparently if a toddler grabs a hold of a laptop screen and pulls backwards on the screen really hard it can cause permanent damage.  To the laptop that is.  Not the toddler.  No toddlers were harmed during this experiment.

Now the screen will not stay up, it either slams closed or falls backwards like it is in the picture.

So I suggested maybe using some duct tape- put the screen at the correct angle, attach some duct tape it to the screen and then to the keyboard part- and it would hold the screen up.  Rich looked at me like I was a crazy, stupid girl.

I asked Rich if I could please take a picture before he fixed it.  I was trying not to laugh, but it was one of those times that I just couldn’t help myself.

He said “NO!”  I told him that someday he might be able to laugh about it and he would surely want a picture to look back on.  He repeated his previous answer “NO!”

Rich’s laptop is a couple of years old and he has been looking for a new one anyways, so I’m not sure why he can’t find the humor in all of this.

So, Rich took the laptop apart trying to figure out how to make the screen stay up.  He couldn’t fix it.

While Rich was off looking for some duct tape I took a quick picture.  I haven’t had a chance to sneak another picture now that it is “fixed.”  But I will take one and I will post it as soon as possible.

Wordless Wednesday #76

June 18th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Hailey, Wordless Wednesday 28 Comments »

**This is my sticky post for Wednesday, June 18th.  Newer entries may be added underneath this one.**

A couple of weeks ago my blogging buddy Rachel told me she would like to see some pictures of Hailey from when she was younger.  Since we weren’t blogging buddies back when Hailey was smaller I am posting some pictures just for her to see.  Oh, okay- I think all moms love to post pictures of their kids- so I’m posting these pictures for me too.  These were all taken about a year ago and it’s amazing to see how much she has changed in the last year.

Stop by 5 Minutes for Mom for more wordlessness.

Be sure to check out my giveaway for a $50 Kangaroodle gift certificate!
