So I Guess I Should Post

I can’t believe that it’s been a week since I’ve posted anything.  I guess I’ve just been busy.  Actually I have been posting every day at Our Crafts ~N~ Things- so if you’re looking for fun activities to do with your toddler or preschooler you can check out my other blog.

Anyhoo- I figured I should do a little updating.

I don’t know if you remember or not- but last year around this time Hailey was diagnosed with trigger thumb on her right hand.  (Trigger thumb basically means that her thumb is stuck in the bent position because of a swollen tendon that can not glide like it is supposed to.)  The doctor recommended surgery to correct the problem.  I put it off and put it off since I am scared to death of Hailey having anesthesia.  Well- I’m glad I did.  Because not too long ago I noticed her left thumb was the same way.  So we went back to the doctor and he confirmed it- she has trigger thumb in that hand too.  Apparently about 30% of the time if you have it in one hand you have it in both.  So, now she has to have surgery on both hands.  But I am glad I waited because now we can get it done all at once.

Hailey also went to see an allergy/asthma specialist.  Even though she is completely healthy right now she still coughs every time she plays hard, laughs hard, has a tantrum or is out in the cold for an extended time.  She now has an official diagnosis of asthma.  And we are trying a new medication to see if it will control the asthma better.  She is also having some blood work done to look and see if she has any allergies.  The doctor does not think she displays symptoms of allergies but he just wants to rule it out.  He said if she does not have allergies and this is just plain asthma that she will probably outgrow it.  But, if it’s allergies it will be something she will always have to deal with.  So, we are praying for no allergies.

That is about all we have been up to over the last week.  I’ll keep you posted about when she is going to have surgery and let you know what happens at her next appointment with the allergy/asthma specialist.

Have a fantastic weekend!

  1. I’ve never heard of trigger thumb, but sorry to hear you have to deal with that. I’m glad you get to have both hands done at once. I’ll pray she has no allergies and she gets healthy fast :)

  2. That is rough. Hang in there, at least you have a plan to take care of all of it.

My little one had surgery when she was one. She was born with a dermoid cyst on her eyebrow. The surgeon recommended we get it removed when she turned one, or the cyst might start to attach to her bone. So at the age of one she was at U of M hospital having surgery. I think it was harder on my husband and I. Hailey recovered quickly and was back on her feet in no time. It’s amazing how resilient kids are. My thought and prayers are with Hailey and your family.

And I will add a hearty Amen!, and thank you God in advance for a no allergies ruling!

I know about the nervousness that comes when you child has to have surgery. Michael had his eye operated on when he was about 2 1/2. He was a mess coming out of the anesthesia…but they say that is normal….didn’t help my mothers heart any.:)
So I understand…but thank God she is not going to have to go through two surgeries.
Let us know when so that we can pray.
    Love ya girl

  5. I’m sorry you are dealing with so much right now! I hope it all works out well and Hailey gets both hands taken care of and outgrowns her asthma. (gary had REALLY bad asthma as a child and he is fine now- if that helps any)

Oh I’m sorry about the asthma. I know it’s so tough to see our kids get sick. And I pretty well understand how it goes with kids with asthma because Matt is asthmatic too… But I’m hanging with the hope that he’s going to outgrow it one day soon. I hope the same thing for Hailey
