Sad

August 12th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Me | 18 Comments »

Today I feel sad.

When I found out I was pregnant in December 2004 my due date given was August 12th, 2005.

God had a different plan for our lives and I had a miscarriage.

I love the life I have today and I wouldn’t want to change anything.  I know if I hadn’t had that miscarriage that we probably wouldn’t have Hailey.  And I can’t even imagine our lives without Hailey.  I am very thankful for the way our lives have turned out.  But, I still can’t help but think about the 3rd birthday we would be celebrating today if the miscarriage had never happened.

So, today- I just feel sad.

The Big Move

August 10th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Hailey | 9 Comments »

We’ve been talking lately about how it’s time to move Hailey (22 months old) out of her crib and into a big girl bed. Although she has never climbed out of her crib she is certainly tall enough to do it so I want to prevent that from happening. Plus she is tall enough to get in and out of a regular bed on her own.

The problem we are having is in trying to decide if we want her to have a toddler bed or if we should go right to a regular twin bed. The picture over on the right is what her crib looks like (that’s not actually hers because she is asleep in her bed right now so I can’t take a picture of it. This is just one I found on the Internet.) This crib can convert into a toddler bed- where the front railing would be removed and something like this would be put on the front so she wouldn’t fall out:

This piece did not actually come with her bed and from what I have read it will cost in the range of $60-$90 and take about 10-12 weeks to arrive.

Or, her bed can also convert into a twin bed.  The back of her crib would become the headboard and the front panel would become the foot board.  Supposedly we would have to buy a conversion kit for that as well (costing around $100).  I don’t know why Rich couldn’t just bolt a regular old frame to it, but he’s going to have to look at it to see.

Anyhoo- all of that to ask for your opinions- when did you move your kids out of a crib?  And did you go right to a twin bed or did you use a toddler bed?

After you’re done leaving me your advice be sure to check out my latest giveaway for a $45 prize package filled with school supplies.

A Little Weekend Fun

August 6th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Hailey, Me, Rich | 14 Comments »

On Saturday we decided to go on a little picnic to a nearby park. Rather than make an actual picnic dinner we decided to just pick up some Wendy’s and head to the park. When we got to the park and took out our food we realized that our burgers had been made completely wrong. We asked for everything on the burgers- lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc. Instead they put nothing on the burgers. Just meat and cheese on a bun. Now whose fault do you think it was that the burgers were wrong? I think it was Wendy’s fault. But Rich- he thought it was my fault for not taking our food out of the bag, opening each burger up and checking to make sure they were right before we left Wendy’s. Ummm- no, I will not do that, ever. But Rich is more than welcome to do that if he wants to.

Anyhoo, after that minor incident we had a wonderful time. Hailey fed most of her food to the birds- which caused a large gathering of birds around our picnic table. Then we walked around and Hailey ran around. Hailey spotted the carousel so we took a ride on it.

I know you can’t really tell by the look on her face, but she loved it.

After the ride was over Hailey wanted to go again.  When she found out we were only taking one ride it was not pleasant.  There was screaming and crying and yelling “MORE RIDE!”  We distracted her for a little while by watching some boats.  But when it was time to go home and she realized we were not going on the carousel again there was more screaming and crying.  And it continued for most of the way home.  And it continued for a while after we were home too with her yelling, “I WANT RIDE!  I WANT RIDE!”

Anyhoo we actually did have a really nice time.  But aren’t these toddler years fun?

Be sure to check out my latest giveaway before you leave for The Original Country Bob’s Cookbook and All Purpose Sauce.
