What I’ve Been Up To

August 20th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Family, Hailey, Rich 14 Comments »

I know my posting lately has not been like it usually is.  I’ve been busy and not having much time to use my computer lately.  If I’m not posting here- make sure you check out Our Crafts ~N~ Things to see what Hailey and I have been up to, I’ve been posting there every day.

Anyhoo- last weekend was an absolute blast.  We were able to spend the weekend at my parents house with my cousin Beka and her hubby and their daughter, and my parents of course.  When Beka and I were younger we had lots and lots of fun together.  As we’ve gotten older, married and now have our own kids it’s so hard to get together.  It seems like we only see each other during the holidays and at weddings when it’s too busy to really have time to chat.  So, when Beka had the idea that we spend a weekend together I was thrilled!

We arrived at my parents house on Friday night.  My dads job was having a family night- so he took all of us to that.

Hailey loved the bouncy fun things they had.

This is Beka’s daughter- Anika looking cute as can be while we were eating some of the yummy food.

There were some fun cars to see- and Rich wanted to pose with Herbie.

Saturday we spent most of the day hanging out at my parents house- talking and letting Hailey and Anika “play” together.  The “playing” consisted of Hailey trying to make sure she kept all of her toys away from Anika.  Since Anika is a year younger than Hailey- she is still in the stage where doesn’t really care.  But we definitely have some work to do with Hailey on learning how to share toys.

Anyhoo- Beka bought the girls adorable matching outfits and we tried to get them to cooperate and pose for a picture.

Aren’t they cute?  Now if only we could get them to smile.  (The mark on Hailey’s arm is her tattoo from Friday night)

I think they’re sharing a special cousin moment here, while enjoying their crackers and refusing to cooperate with their mothers for a picture involving smiling.

Awww- a nice little hug.

And some fun together in the pool.

It was a fun weekend seeing my parents and Beka, Bill and Anika.  We have to do it again soon!

Kiss It

August 14th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Hailey, The Things She Says 19 Comments »

I absolutley love this stage that Hailey is in.  Yes, of course she has her moments of screaming and crying, but for the most part she is just so much fun.  She makes me smile and laugh every single day.  The last couple of weeks her new thing is that all boo-boos much be kissed.  Even if it is just something simple like a slight bump on her hand.  She holds out her hand and says “Kiss it.”

The rule applies to me too.  If I say “ouch” then Hailey will follow up with “Mommy hurt?” and when I show her where I am hurt she says “kiss it” and gives my boo-boo a kiss.

So the other day Hailey fell down and landed on her bottom.  She came to me and said, “Hurt butt.”

“You hurt your bottom?  How did that happen?”  I asked her.

“Fall down.”  She answered

“Are you okay?”  I asked.

“Hurt butt,” Hailey responsded as she turned around, stuck her little bottom out and said, “Kiss it.”

The Big Move

August 10th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Hailey 9 Comments »

We’ve been talking lately about how it’s time to move Hailey (22 months old) out of her crib and into a big girl bed. Although she has never climbed out of her crib she is certainly tall enough to do it so I want to prevent that from happening. Plus she is tall enough to get in and out of a regular bed on her own.

The problem we are having is in trying to decide if we want her to have a toddler bed or if we should go right to a regular twin bed. The picture over on the right is what her crib looks like (that’s not actually hers because she is asleep in her bed right now so I can’t take a picture of it. This is just one I found on the Internet.) This crib can convert into a toddler bed- where the front railing would be removed and something like this would be put on the front so she wouldn’t fall out:

This piece did not actually come with her bed and from what I have read it will cost in the range of $60-$90 and take about 10-12 weeks to arrive.

Or, her bed can also convert into a twin bed.  The back of her crib would become the headboard and the front panel would become the foot board.  Supposedly we would have to buy a conversion kit for that as well (costing around $100).  I don’t know why Rich couldn’t just bolt a regular old frame to it, but he’s going to have to look at it to see.

Anyhoo- all of that to ask for your opinions- when did you move your kids out of a crib?  And did you go right to a twin bed or did you use a toddler bed?

After you’re done leaving me your advice be sure to check out my latest giveaway for a $45 prize package filled with school supplies.
