Random Recipes

For this weeks recipe exchange Pam asked us to share a drink recipe.

My favorite drink ever is one that my mom makes.  I emailed her and asked her if it was okay if I shared her recipe with the entire world wide web.  She hasn’t answered me yet so I assume that means I can share it ;)   (edited to add- my mom never got my email asking her permission to share this recipe.  But, she read my post and said that I could share it with you all)

Pineapple Slush Punch

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups sugar
3 cups water
1 12 oz can frozen OJ
1 12 oz can frozen lemonade
1 46 oz can pineapple juice
3 cups water (again)
4 quarts ginger ale or lemon lime soda

Directions

Put 3 cups water and sugar in 6 quart sauce pan over high heat and bring to a boil. Stir until sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and stir in the OJ and lemonade. Add pineapple juice and 3 cups of cold water. Stir until blended. Put in a cake pan and freeze.

When ready to serve cut the frozen pineapple mixture into squares. Pour 4 quarts of soda over squares.

Serves 30

A Much Happier Mommy

June 5th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Hailey, Me | 21 Comments »

A couple of weeks ago I did a post called Mommy Guilt where I told all of you how I have been feeling like a bad mommy for not spending enough time with Hailey.  And I wish I had posted it sooner.  You all made me feel so much better.  Every single one of your comments made me cry- you guys are all so sweet.  I love my blogging friends.

So many of you commented that you have the exact same feelings that I do- you feel like you just can’t do enough or be there enough for your kids.  And that the people who are the bad moms- they don’t worry about doing more for their kids.  This is one of the things I love so much about blogging- realizing that other moms have the exact same thoughts and feelings as I do.

Then there were the phone calls, emails and comments from the people who know me in real life. The people who have actually seen me in action with Hailey and know Hailey and what a happy little girl she is. Those meant so much to me because you all know me for real and have actually seen me with Hailey.

Having said all of that- I have been spending less time on the computer lately and it feels great!  I’m still working on my sponsored posts, which has been going great.  But, I have been cutting back on reading other blogs and commenting on other blogs.  Some of you may or may not have noticed.  I am still visiting all of my favorite blogs and commenting, just not as often as I was.  If you used to get a comment from me everyday you’ve probably noticed that I’m not doing that anymore.  So, I’ve been spending less time on the computer and I’m so much happier.

Anyhoo, all of that to say- thank you so much for your sweet comments.

And you know what?  You guys are right- I am a good mom.  This little smile right here is how I know!

Livin’ it Up on Friday Night

June 3rd, 2008 Melanie Posted in Hailey | 13 Comments »

Every once in a while people use some interesting search terms to end up on my blog.  Most of the time the search terms makes sense.  Like “Evenflo sippy cups” because I have had a giveaway for those.  Or “Pediatric Trigger Thumb” because Hailey has that and I have talked about it.

But the other day someone used a search time that made me laugh right out loud.

Apparently if you use the search terms “livin it up livin it up oh yeah its friday night” my blog will be one of the results.  And that?  It makes me laugh.  Because we are not all that exciting around here on Friday nights.

Last Friday we went out to dinner.  We hardly ever go out to dinner anymore.  Why?  What is the reason?  The 2 1/2 foot toddler is the reason.  But for some reason I forget once in a while and when Rich asks me if I want to go out to eat I remember that I do not exactly like to cook and forget how Hailey acts and we go out to eat.

We went to an all you can eat buffet because I knew that would be good for my diet because then we don’t have to wait for our food and it’s a little easier to deal with Hailey.  But as soon as I finished my OCD-fashion recleaning of the table and highchair Hailey announced “ALL DONE!”  I quickly got her a plate of food, she ate one piece of cheese and said, “ALL DONE!!”  And then a little louder she said “WALK!”  Then there was the screeching and yelling and more “ALL DONE!” and “WALK!!” announcements.  Needless to say, I did not get to eat all I could eat.  Although that is probably a good thing.

Afterwards we had to go to Circuit City and Target.  I ran in to Circuit City to have a quick price adjustment done while Rich and Hailey waited in the car.  When I got back to the car Hailey said “TA!” which means Target.  I agreed that yes we were going to Target now and Hailey responded, “Fun, fun.”  I have no idea where she gets her love for Target.

We didn’t bother with a cart because I only needed two things.  Some Zantac and some forks for Hailey.  About a half hour later we were ready to check out with Rich holding the two things we needed plus about 10 other things, one of them being a potty chair.

Next stop?  The grocery store.

See how we live it up on Friday nights?

When we got home Hailey wanted to open the box with her potty chair in it.

(As a side note- why in the world does a potty chair make me sad?  I mean diapers cost a fortune.  Hailey fights me like she is a professional wrestler when I try to change her.  But still, the idea of potty training makes me down right emotional.)

And so.

We opened the potty chair box and put the potty chair together.  Hailey sat on it a couple of times (with her clothes on) just to try it out.  I’m not really pushing anything yet because I don’t think she’s ready I’m ready.  I did put the potty chair in the bathroom and had Hailey try it out for real.  Nothing happened though until I put her diaper back on.

Anyhoo, Hailey really loves her potty chair and brings it all over the house with her.  Since it hasn’t been used for any official potty chair business yet I don’t mind that it is sitting in our living room right now.  Or that it sits next to Hailey’s chair at meal times.  Or even that it sits next to Hailey’s bed while she sleeps.
