Hailey is 2 Years Old

Hailey with Tigger at 2 years old.  (Just so you know- Hailey is holding a bottle for one of her dolls, she does not use a bottle.)

And just for fun- here is Hailey last year at one year old.

Hailey had her 2 year check up on Thursday.  When we got there I noticed a bit of toothpaste on her chin from brushing her teeth after breakfast.  So, I licked my finger and cleaned off her chin (which I swore I would never do).  Hailey responded by saying, “That’s gucky Mommy.  Don’t eat me chin.”

Hailey did very well at her appointment and was very cooperative with her doctor.  She was also very patient as I had a list of things I wanted to talk to the doctor about and Hailey waited very quietly, looking at books while I talked to the doctor.  Hailey’s doctor is also very patient with me and always sits and talks to me and answers all of my questions.  She never acts like I’m annoying her or tries to rush our appointments.  She is wonderful with Hailey and I’m thankful that we found her for Hailey’s pediatrician.

Physically- Hailey weighed 29 1/2 pounds and is 34 1/2 inches tall.  She is in the 75 percentile for both.  She didn’t have to have any immunizations this time, although we did want her to have her flu shot.  She did great for her shot and didn’t even cry.  After her shot was over Hailey said, ”It wasn’t too bad.”

Developmentally- Hailey is still doing great.  She knows her colors and shapes and almost all of her letters.  Hailey can count from 1-11 and she talks in full sentences, using 7-9 words and carries on fun little conversations.  Her pediatrician said that she is doing fabulous and is developmentally advanced.

I’ll be posting pictures from Hailey’s 2nd birthday just as soon as I have some time to upload some more pictures.  Have a great weekend!

Dear Hailey,

October 7th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Celebrations, Hailey | No Comments »

Two years ago today my prayers were answered.  God gave us you- a beautiful baby girl.

I can’t believe that two years have already passed.  Right after you were born, while we were still in the hospital, I remember a nurse coming in to see if we needed anything.  She told me how beautiful you were and she told me to cherish every single moment with you.  She said, “It seems like only yesterday I was down the hall having my own baby girl.  Now she is all grown up with her own children.  It goes by so quickly.”  And it does go by quickly.  The days turn into the weeks, the weeks into months and the months into years.  Two of them already.

If I could just slow down the time for a little while, I would want to slow down these days.  You are so much fun and your little personality is just fabulous.  You make me laugh every single day with your funny sense of humor.  Sometimes when you do something silly you look at me and grin and say, “My is funny Mommy.”  And then we laugh.

You are like a little sponge and you are learning so much so quickly.  You can talk in full sentences and carry on conversations with us.  You are such a smart little girl too.  You know all of your colors and shapes and almost all of your letters.  Your memory amazes me and so often you will repeat something to me that I told you days or weeks before.  Of course, this means that Daddy and I have to remember that anything we say around you will probably be repeated.

You love books so much and you will sit and listen to stories for as long as someone is willing to read them to you.  I am no longer able to skip pages in books when I’m trying to hurry and finish because you have many of the stories memorized.  You will tell me, “No.  Wait.  My need to go back.”  Then you go back and find the page that I tried to skip.

You seem to have an endless supply of energy.  You go and go non-stop.  You love to grab my hand and say, “Let’s run Mommy.” or “Let’s bounce Mommy.” And if I hesitate you will tell me, “It’ll be fun, fun, fun.  Come on Mommy.”

Being a mommy is the hardest job in the whole world.  Some days are long and hard and seem like they will never end.  Some days seem like one tantrum after another with you wanting to do everything by yourself, “MY DO IT!  No help Mommy. MY DO IT!”  But I know it’s because you’re learning and you want to be able to figure everything out by yourself.  Even though being a mommy is hard work, it is also the most rewarding job in the whole world.  And even though you have your moments, most days are filled with fun times and laughter and I wouldn’t trade a second for anything else in the whole wide world.  Your beautiful smile, your sweet little giggle, the sound of your voice and hearing you say, “I love you Mommy.”  Those are the only payments I need.

Sometimes I just sit back and watch you play.  I wonder who you will grow up to be and what you will be like.  I wonder if I am doing everything I can do to give you the best life possible.  I wonder if you will be happy and if you will make the right choices.  Every day I pray that you will grow up to be healthy and happy and that you will love Jesus.  Nothing else matters and I hope I am teaching you that.

Sometimes while I am watching you play I think about how much I love you.  And how I love you so much it is often overwhelming.  And sometimes I start to get a little misty eyed and it doesn’t take long before you notice and say, “Don’t be sad Mommy.  Okay?”  And I tell you that I am very happy and you give me a hug and say, “Mommy is happy.”  Then you grab my hand and say, “Come on Mommy, let’s bounce.”  And off we go with you forever holding my heart in the palm of your little hand.

I love you my Little Miss!  Happy 2nd Birthday.

Love,
Mommy

My Lips Are No Longer Sealed

October 6th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Cooking, Velveeta | 13 Comments »

So last week I mentioned a couple of times that I had an exciting announcement that I would be sharing today.  And of course, people started thinking and talking amongst themselves.  And these people decided that the announcement must be that I am pregnant.  Because that was the only logical thing that I could be announcing.  And I am NOT pregnant.  So, I am very sorry to disappoint everyone who came here today expecting news about a brand new person being on the way.  And while my announcement is very exciting, there is nothing quite as exciting as a new baby, so it’s a little hard to follow up something like that.  Anyhoo- without further ado- here is my exciting news:

I am taking part in a fun and fabulous Velveeta Casserole Challenge.  I was selected (and also paid!), along with four other bloggers, to be a part of this challenge.  I wasn’t allowed to say anything until today, so I have been practically bursting trying to keep this news in.  So, what is the Velveeta Casserole Challenge exactly?  I’m glad you asked.  I had to create a casserole- yes, make up my very own recipe- that would serve 8 people, cost less than $20 and use Velveeta Cheese.  Now you may be aware that my cooking abilities are, shall we say, lacking.  But you know what- this casserole that I came up with- it’s really good.  I mean- really, really good.  When Rich took his first bite of it he said, “That’s really good.”  And the last time he said something like that about my cooking was… well… never.  (Although, I have to be perfectly honest and tell you that Rich helped me quite a bit with my recipe.)

Now for the best part about the Velveeta Casserole Challenge: The five of us who were picked- we get to share our recipes.  Then we will all beg our readers to vote for our recipe so that we can win the challenge.  The winner gets some fabulous Cuisinart cookware and a $500 grocery gift card.  And you know what?  I really want to win.  But you know what else?  The other ladies really want to win too.  Now the voting doesn’t actually start until October 30th, so I have plenty of time to come up with ways to bribe you into voting for me.

Throughout October I am going to share with you how I came up with the recipe that I made.  Here’s a little hint about my recipe- we love pizza and we also love meat.  But if you want to know anymore than that, you’re going to have to stay tuned.  Then once the voting begins on October 30th I will start my begging and pleading to get you to vote for me.  Oh- and I’ll have some fun giveaways too, so it won’t all be begging.

Just in case you’re curious- and I’m sure you are- here are the other 4 participants:

Confessions of An Apron Queen
Miss Zoot
My Wooden Spoon
Suburban Bliss

Be sure to keep coming back because you’re going to want to try the recipe when I post it. And of course, you’ll want to enter my giveaways and vote for me.
