Just Some Random Stuff

Now for those of you who read Pam’s blog you’re going to be scratching your heads and saying, “Wait a minute, am I at Random Thoughts or Livin’ With Me?”  Beacause this post?  It’s going to be quite random.  And I think random is good- that’s why Pam’s blog is one of my favorites.   And if you don’t read her blog- it’s time you start!

Anyhoo- onto my random post.

First of all, I have decided to start posting again every day on Our Happy Happenings.    Just posting here at Livin’ With Me is not enough to satisfy my blogging addiction ;)   So, if you want to- you can go back to checking there every day too.  I’m going to use Our Happy Happenings more for the various daily memes- such as Fun Monday, Tackle It Tuesday, Wordless Wednesday, Thursday Thirteen, and Friday Feast.  I’ll still be posting daily here too- so don’t stop visiting me here!

Next on the list of my randomness.  Over the weekend Rich and Brooke went to an event that helps to raise money for a charity.  There were many people, who in my opinion just might have to be completely crazy.  What did the crazy people do?  They went into the freezing cold water.  The water temperature was 37 degrees and I don’t actually know what the air temperature was at the time, but later in the day when I checked it was in the single digits.  (I know some of my Canadian readers are probably thinking, “Wow!  Single digits- that sounds great to me.”)  So, while I think it’s great that this was done for a charity- I prefer to stay in my warm cozy home and just write a check to help the cause.  Anyways- Rich and Brooke were only planning to watch the crazy people.  But, apparently it was really hard to see without actually getting in yourself.

And so.

Rich and Brooke ended up in the water.  Rich only up to a little above his ankles and Brooke up to her knees.  So, they aren’t quite as crazy as some of the people who put their entire bodies into the freezing water.

And now here’s a few pictures of the fun.

The nice balmy water, at 37 degrees

Some amazingly brave people who must have very thick skin

While you can’t exactly see it here, Brooke is in the water.  And I can assure you she went in up to her knees because I saw her wet jeans when she got home.

As soon as they got home Brooke went right to the shower to warm up her legs.  Of course, Hailey and Dottie had to watch.

And now the last part of my random post. Hailey loves to sit under our kitchen table and is constantly bumping her head. So, we thought maybe she’d like a tunnel so she would have something to climb through.  So, here are a few pictures of the new tunnel.

Livin’ With Me

Hailey enjoys crawling through the tunnel.

Livin’ With Me

Dottie also enjoys crawling through the tunnel.

Apparently the tunnel is also a good place to read your Bible.

And also a good place for a quick nap.

All About My Honey and Me

February 8th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Me, Rich 19 Comments »

I saw this over on Leeann’s  blog and I thought it would be fun to play along.

What is his name?
Rich
How long have you been together?
Together for 12 1/2 years and married for 7 1/2.
How long did you date?
5 years
How old is he?
33
Who eats more?
I think we probably eat about the same amount.  This could have just a little to do with why need to lose a few 25 pounds.
Who said I love you first?
He did.
Who is taller?
He is.
Who can sing better?
While I am not great at singing I am most definitely better than Rich ;)
Who is smarter?
I think it depends on the topic
Who does the laundry?
I do
Who pays the bills?
Well, technically since Rich brings home the pay check- he pays the bills.  But, I am the one who actually…. you know…. pays them
Who sleeps on the right side?
Looking at the bed…I do.
Who mows the lawn?
He does.  I do not remember ever operating a law mower.
Who cooks dinner?
I usually do, but Rich is really great about helping out in the kitchen.
Who drives?
Most of the time Rich drives.  Sometimes when we take trips to visit our family I drive and he sits in the back with Hailey (it keeps the screaming to a minimum).  I get car sick in the back seat.
Who is more stubborn?
We can both be pretty stubborn, but I think he’s worse than me.  I’m sure if you asked Rich he would tell you that I am more stubborn than he is.
Who asked out who first?
We started out as friends so it’s hard to say.  I guess I probably asked him out first but not on a date so much as to invite him to come along with me and my friends to hang out with us.
Who proposed?
He did.
Who had more friends?
I have no idea who had more friends.
Who is more sensitive?
Most definitely me- it’s not too hard to make me cry.
Who has more siblings?
He does. He has 4 brothers and 1 sister. I have 2 brothers.
Who wears the pants?
I like to let Rich think he wears the pants, but we both know the truth- I am in charge around here ;)

Pain Worse Than Childbirth

December 22nd, 2007 Melanie Posted in Rich 7 Comments »

Rich has been having some problems with his foot.  He hurt it quite a while ago at work and it seems to be getting worse.  He finally decided it was time to go see the doctor since it had been over two years since he originally hurt it.  It’s best to make sure there is really a problem before you head to the doctor you know.

Anyhoo- he went to the doctor who referred him to a foot specialist.  So, last Monday we all went to the foot doctor.  Yes, all three of us went.  (Please tell me, is it only my husband?  Or do your husbands beg you to go with them if they have to go to the doctor?)  Keeping Hailey occupied in the waiting room is not fun, but that is another story for another day.

And so.  The foot doctor made this special little foot thingee for Rich to wear.  He’s been wearing it for a week and it has actually made his foot hurt in a different place.  So, Rich asked me to call the doctor for him (because- goodness gracious- we wouldn’t want him to call himself).

On Wednesday we went to see the foot doctor again.  Hailey and I waited in the car this time (with the DVD player).  Rich came out not too long after looking quite white.

“I passed out.”  He told me.

“Are you serious?  Are you okay?”  I asked him.

“Well, I almost passed out.” He responded.

It turns out the doctor told him he could choose surgery or a cortisone shot.  Rich thought he’d go with the shot.  Apparently the shot was quite painful.  On his way out of the office, Rich started to feel hot and dizzy.  The receptionist was trying to get some information from him for his next appointment and Rich told her how he was feeling.

The doctor heard what Rich said and came rushing out and told him to lay down on the floor.  They gave him a chair to put his feet up on because they were worried he was about to pass out.  They kept him for a while and the doctor checked his pulse and made sure he was okay before he let him leave.

So, while he didn’t actually pass out he felt bad enough that he insisted that I drive home because he was not feeling well.  He emphasized that this was the very reason why it is important that I always come with him for appointments.  Because you just never know.

For the rest of the afternoon and evening Rich continued to tell me how I could not possibly comprehend the pain he was in when the doctor gave him the cortisone shot in his foot.

Finally I said, “You know what?  I think I can imagine pretty severe pain.  I have a feeling that giving birth probably hurt more than your cortisone shot.”

“No,” he replied, “I think the cortisone shot probably hurt more than giving birth does.  After all, giving birth did not cause you to almost pass out.”

Excuse me?  What do you think ladies?  Are men really that wimpy?  While I do think that the shot probably hurt quite a bit, I don’t think it can compare to labor.  So- if there is a woman out there who has had to endure both kinds of pain- please do tell…. which is worse?
