Guess Who Dressed Me Today

May 15th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Hailey, Rich 21 Comments »

The other morning Rich changed Hailey’s diaper and got her dressed.  Without being asked

I was listening from the kitchen.  First I heard him tell Hailey the weather would be nice so she could wear shorts.  Then I heard him asking, “Do you want to wear this shirt?”  And I heard Hailey say, “No.”  That same question and answer were repeated several times.  Finally Hailey agreed to a shirt.

On their way back out to the kitchen I heard Rich say, “I’m not sure if this outfit matches.  How do you even know if it matches?”

And when Hailey came around the corner this is what I saw her wearing.

We didn’t have anywhere to go, so I left the outfit on her.  I did have to at least brush her hair though.

As long as Rich will change diapers and get Hailey dressed without being asked I don’t mind what he puts on her.  Unless I have to take her out in public that is.

He Has a Way With Words

I have a pimple on my forehead.  And it is a big one.

So, today Rich looks at me and says, “Man, that thing is huge.”  I wasn’t exactly sure how to respond to that, so I didn’t say anything.  I guess because of my silence Rich thought he should say some more.  “I was looking at it earlier and I was thinking ‘wow, that pimple is big.’”

At that point he must have realized what he had said because then he added, “Well, that’s not really what I mean.”

Oh?  What is it that you mean?

What’s For Dinner?

May 7th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Rich No Comments »

The other night Rich and I were discussing what to have for dinner.  My menu plan had called for marinated Chicken, but I had forgotten to marinate it.  So, I went through my menu plan for the rest of the week telling Rich what his choices would be for that night.  When I got to Sunday I told him that the menu plan said, “I have no idea, I won’t be doing any cooking.”

Rich said, “Why?  Why aren’t you cooking?”

“It’s Mother’s Day.  I won’t be doing any cooking.”

“Oh, it is?  It’s Mothers Day?”  He asked.  “Who is going to do the cooking?”

Ummmm- I don’t know, but it won’t be me.

Everything Must Be Planned Ahead of Time

April 10th, 2008 Melanie Posted in Hailey, Me, Rich 16 Comments »

I am a planner.  I like to have everything planned ahead of time and scheduled just so.  When we take a vacation I like to plan each day out with where we will be going and what we will be doing.  Rich on the other hand is a spur of the moment type of person.  He’s a “hey, let’s go to Disney World tomorrow” type of a person.  (We don’t live anywhere near Disney World, by the way).  I, on the other hand, am a “let’s plan a trip to Disney World for next year so that I have time to research every little detail before we go” type of person.

So last Saturday morning when Rich said, “Let’s go to the zoo this afternoon” I said, “No way, we can’t go to the zoo today.  When are we going to do that?  It’s not in my plans.”

Rich said, “We can go this afternoon.”

To which I responded, “This is why everything must be planned ahead of time.  I am going grocery shopping this morning.  Then I need to feed Hailey her lunch and then she has to go down for her nap at 1pm.  After her nap (which usually goes until about 3-3:30-pm) I must feed her a snack and then go to Target.  Then I will be hurrying home to get dinner ready.  The zoo closes at 5pm.  How in the world will we have time to go to the zoo?  If you had told me ahead of time that you wanted to go to the zoo we could have gone this morning.”

I went to get ready to the grocery store.  I started thinking about how much Hailey would love a trip to the zoo, she thinks animals are fantastic.  I thought if her nap was cut short so we could go that afternoon it wouldn’t really be all that terrible.

So, guess what I did?  I changed my plans, at the last minute.  And I only twitched a little bit.

I got the grocery shopping done.  Rich fed Hailey an early lunch and put her down for an early nap.  When she got up we went to the zoo.  We had a blast.

After the zoo we all went to Target and got home in time for me to fix dinner and still eat at a reasonable hour.

Imagine that.  Last minute plans and things still went smoothly.  Who knew?
