Over the weekend we made a little trip to Toys ‘R Us. I’ve been wanting to get Hailey this slide. It was on sale (with a coupon) for $29.99. She loves the slides so much when we go to the park that I thought it would be great to get her one. Everytime she sees a slide her eyes just light up and she calls out “WHEE!” I figured since it was only $30 we should get it for her so she could have a “whee” at home.
So, we got to Toys ‘R Us and checked out the slide. Once I saw it in person I thought it seemed small and not all that safe. If you look at the picture you can kind of tell- but there isn’t much room at the top for the child to get his/her feet up off of the ladder and onto the slide. I thought it seemed like something that would cause many falls. If any of you have one and feel differently, I would be interested to know- but to me it just didn’t seem safe enough.

I had my mind set on getting Hailey a “whee” so we ended up getting this one instead. It was $79.99 with a coupon. A bit more than we had planned on spending. But this one seems so much safer and it has other stuff on it she can do.
They had boxes of this slide on the shelves but instead of bringing the box up front to pay you are supposed to bring up a little card to give to the cashier to ring up. I imagine that’s a whole lot easier than trying to run the huge box over the scanner.
Anyhoo, we paid for the slide and the cashier told us to stand at the front of the store to wait and someone would bring our slide up. So, we waited and waited. And then we waited some more. It was lunch time and Hailey was getting a bit hungry and grouchy. And also- I was getting a bit hungry and grouchy. Oh, and Rich- he was getting hungry and grouchy too. So after about 15 or 20 minutes we said we were just going to go get the slide ourselves. The cashier pretended not to hear us.
About a minute later Rich came up to the front with the box. He told the cashier at least three times that he had went and got the box himself. She stared straight ahead like she couldn’t hear him. And I know she wasn’t deaf because I talked to her when we paid for the slide and her hearing was just fine at the time. So we just started to walk out of the store. Suddenly someone was available to help us- yelling from across the store “I NEED TO SEE YOUR RECEIPT.” You know just in case we stood in the front of the store for 25 minutes and then decided to go ahead and steal a rather large box with a slide in it.
Anyhoo- I was pretty irritated with the customer service. The lady who finally “helped” us by looking at our receipt said they were just very busy. But, I could clearly see about three employees who were busy talking, not working. And the store didn’t have a whole lot of customers in it either.
When we got home Rich set Hailey’s slide up in her playroom (it was a cold, rainy day) while I fed her lunch. My plan was for Hailey to her nap first and then see her new “whee” but Rich just couldn’t wait to show it to her. She was thrilled.

While I was putting Hailey down for her nap she kept pointing and crying “whee, whee, whee.” She finally feel asleep. She usually sleeps between 2 -3 hours (depending on the day). But, about a half hour later I could hear her calling from her room “whee, whee, whee” and I knew nap time was over.
